New Sonic and the Black Knight screenshots
Filed in External News, November 29, 2008, 5:31 pmI still haven’t fully wrapped my head around the thought of a Sonic game where the iconic blue hedgehog wields Excalibur Calibur, but hey, whatever Sega. As long as it’s good.
Anyway, Sega’s released a bunch of new screenshots from Sonic and the Black Knight, a Wii-exclusive title where Sonic is thrust into the Arthurian legends. The game will feature a sword-fighting system using the Wii’s motion-sensing Wiimote.
Screenshots are below, and they certainly do look pretty. Sonic and the Black Knight is slated for a Spring 2009 release in Japan. North America is slated to get the game on March 2009.

Neuros OSD contest winner announcement!
Filed in External News, November 28, 2008, 9:57 pm
First things first though, a couple of public service announcements from the dude’s who made this whole thing possible, Neuros, fear not, it’s pretty cool stuff.
You see, Neuros is about to release a new Beta firmware for the OSD, with 2 new applications developed by Neuros Hacker MattJ: Stream Fuse and Wooble.
Stream Fuse will allow Neuros OSD users to stream live TV remotely. The stream can be played on a PC with VLC or Mplayer, and on smartphones using compatible streaming software that include TCPMP (the Core Pocket Media Player).
Wooble is a simple web interface to access and control the Neuros OSD remotely. Operations like scheduling new recordings or changing a video channel that used to require being in front of the Neuros OSD and the use of its remote can now be done from a simple webpage anywhere.
Tres cool non? Anyway, on to the announcement.
And the winner is….

GameStop: Games’ digital distribution not a threat
Filed in External News, , 8:25 pm
A lot of people are predicting a rather doomsday-ish scenario for the plight of the retail industry in the rise of the DL format. While many are saying that game disks will eventually bow down to their downloadable counterparts, GameStop is keeping calm, and is, in fact, of the belief that the DL format is no threat to retail business such as theirs.
Says Tony Bartel, VP for GameStop,
Actually we really don’t see it as a threat. When you talk about a threat, we actually see a couple of things. First of all, when you look at the digital download space, 95 percent of the games taht are downloaded today are on the PC side, the majority of which are casual. About 2 percent of the entire console market is downloaded today, and that’s a growing rate that’s slightly less than the actual boxed product on video games. So the console market really today consists of what we call microtransactions, where you add the extra maps, where you add the extra pieces. So there’s very little of the full game downloaded that is actually taking place on the console side.
And according to him, what’s gonna keep them afloat and distinct from these downloadables are the manpower they have in the store. Yes, it’s thanks to their helpful staff that the convenience of DL games will be no match to retail ones.
What we see is that the games are incredibly complex, and with the complexity – and espe
cially with the investment that they actually have as well both in terms of time and money – we actually see that there is an increased need for someone to explain the game.
What do you guys think? Will it be any time soon that you prefer to get your games online, or do you think dragging yourself away from the computer for a good ol’ walk under the sun to GameStop is still a huge hit?

Shin: inefficient communicator on Fragile
Filed in External News, , 6:22 pmWe’ve got a new update for Namco Bandai’s Wii RPG title, Fragile. Another character has been revealed, and it’s a young, brilliant scientist named Shin.
According to his profile, his brilliance is truly to be envied, that’s why it shouldn’t come as a surprise if those around him do get bitter with jealousy. Despite his intellectual capacity, however, he does leave room for a lot of improvement when it comes to communication. He is, as Namco Bandai would describe him, as one where “Words are really an inefficient means of communication.”
Toshio Furukawa lends his voice for Shin’s character in the game. We’ve also got new screenshots, as well as the boxart for the game. Do click away to see the images in full size.
Black Friday mad rush takes Wal-Mart employee’s life
Filed in External News, , 5:03 pm
An unfortunate event on Black Friday has occurred at a Wal-Mart branch in Long Island, New York. One worker was killed while at least four other people were injured.
The unnamed 34-year-old worker was doing maintenance work at the store when the people rushed to get inside, trampling him down. Co-worker Jimmy Overby narrated the scenario:
He was bum-rushed by 200 people. They took the doors off the hinges. He was trampled and killed in front of me. They took me down too. … I literally had to fight people off my back.
The store was rushed with a surge of eager shoppers awaiting the door’s opening at 5AM for the annual Black Friday sale. On the site, a metal portion of the door is “crumpled like an acordion”.
The Wal-Mart branch has since been closed after the incident, with the investigation still ongoing. The company is said to be working with the police. Said company spokesman Dan Fogelman, “The safety and security of our customers and associates is our top priority. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families at this difficult time.”
Go easy on your shopping, guys. No need to rush. The store’s not going anywhere anyway. Always be mindful of what’s going on around you so that if heaven forbid another situation like this comes up (knock on wood), tragedy may be averted.

Rock Band 2 Wii Europe coming January?
Filed in External News, , 4:08 pmCould it be that European gamers will be getting a reprieve with the not-so-late release of Rock Band 2 (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PS2)? If you’ll remember, the original iteration for the Wii did not land in Europe till September of this year, a good ten months after the North American counterparts.
However, if all is to be believed in Amazon’s page, there is a chance that that the release for the Rock Band sequel won’t take as long this time around. They’re claiming a January 22nd release, a good month (give or take a couple of weeks) from the NA Wii release.
We’d rather not hold our breaths for this one though. Better to not expect and be pleasantly surprised than expect to high heavens and fall down with a crushing disappointment.
